New to Coding?

Mostly using Scratch, a visual programming language developed by MIT, students will experience game development, developing animations and utilise Augmented Reality.

Course Outline

DNA is what makes every living thing unique! It carries instructions that tell our body how to grow and function. DNA is made up of four building blocks called nucleotides: Adenine (A), Thymine (T), Guanine (G), and Cytosine (C).

In this workshop, we’ll create a fun game where you match the correct base pairs. It’s a great way to learn about DNA while also practicing important coding concepts like loops, cloning, and variables!

Course Highlights

Key Concepts Covered:
Loops, Clone, Sensing, User Event, Variables, Looks and Costumes

Frequently Asked Questions

About Thematic Workshop (P100) - Pair It Up: The DNA Game

What are thematic workshops?

Our thematic workshops are coding workshops where students will focus on exploring a certain theme in class. Students will get a quick introduction to the programming platform they’ll be using and code an exciting game from scratch in our 2-hour thematic workshops.

What is your average class size?

Our classes have a 1:8 teacher to student ratio. We keep our classes small so that every student benefits from maximum personalised attention.

What do students need to bring to class?

We provide all equipment for the classes. Students just need to bring stationery, water bottle and a jacket in case it gets cold.

What if a student misses the thematic workshop class? Is there a class replacement policy?

Unless absent for medical reasons, a communication lead time via email to specialprogrammes@thelearninglab.com.sg of at least a week is required prior to missing the class in order for arrangements for a replacement class to be made. The replacement class may be an alternative thematic workshop for the same age group.

How long is the class?

Our thematic workshops are 2 hours long.

Can my child join the thematic workshops first to see whether s/he can understand?

Yes definitely! Our thematic workshop allows students to explore and kickstart their coding journey.
