Frequently Asked Questions

About P6 Strong Start for Academic Success in English

Will there be any homework?

There will be no homework. Students will be given time to try most questions as part of class work. For open-ended comprehension, grammar and synthesis and transformation questions, students can check their answers against the answer keys.

Will the worksheets be marked?

For English, components like composition writing will be collected by the teacher for marking. For other components, our teachers will go through the answers in class. Due to the intensive nature of the programmes, our teachers will focus more on the teaching content, question analysis and answering methods/techniques. Hence, answer keys for open-ended comprehension, grammar and synthesis and trasformation are provided to ensure that there are answers to check against after the programme ends. This is unlike our core programme where we do not typically provide answer keys.

If I can only made it for 1 day out of the 2 days, can my child still attend the session? Are the contents covered related?

You can still attend the session as different components/topics are covered over both days. Should you miss any session, worksheets will be provided.

My child already attended the Primary 4/5 Intensive Revision programme. Is this any different?

Yes. While the components covered may be similar, the passages and questions are different. By attending the Primary 5/6 Strong Start for Academic Success in English programme, your child will be exposed to a wider variety of questions and has the opportunity to practise more.

Is the Primary 5/6 Strong Start for Academic Success in English programme targeted at mainstream or GEP students?

The programme is targeted at mainstream students as the materials covered focus on the PSLE. At the P5 level, the GEP students take the GEP examination which is slightly different from the mainstream examination. However, P5 GEP students who would like some practice for the PSLE can sign up for this programme.

My child already attends the Primary 4/5 core programmes. How will this be useful?

The Primary 5/6 Strong Start for Academic Success in English programmes focus on the sections which are key to helping your child score in the exam. Your child can use this opportunity to consolidate their learning or to revise areas which they feel that they are not familiar with. These programmes also serve to give students a head start in Primary 5/6.
