Programme Overview
Course Outline
Students begin their learning in a classroom, by investigating cells as the basic unit of life. Through microscope observations, they will investigate cells, compare unicellular and multicellular organisms, and learn how cells are organised to form living organisms.
They will explore classification and biodiversity, discovering how scientists classify living things and examining the diversity of plants, animals and invertebrates. Students will also consider the importance of biodiversity and how species and populations change over time through evolution and natural selection.
Students will then bring their learning to life with a guided learning experience at the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum. At the museum, students will be encouraged to observe and compare specimens like scientists, connecting classification, biodiversity and evolution.
As students apply classroom concepts to real-world examples, they develop a deeper appreciation of the diversity and evolutionary history of life on Earth.

- Explain why cells are considered the basic building blocks of life
- Distinguish between multicellular and unicellar organisms and recognise key differences between plant and animal cells
- Understand the levels of organisation from cells to organisms and how scientists classify living things
- Identify major groups of plants, animals and invertebrates
- Explain the importance of biodiversity and recognise factors that can contribute to biodiversity loss
- Explain, at an introductory level, evolution and natural selection
