Programme Overview

The Building Maths Foundation series is designed to equip students with the confidence and skills to master foundational concepts before progressing to more complex problem-solving. Created to provide targeted support, the series is structured into modules, allowing students to strategically select topics for focused reinforcement.

This programme is only open to students who are currently not enrolled in The Learning Lab’s Mathematics programme.

Programme Focus

Our Building Maths Foundation programme strengthens the essential concepts and skills covered in Primary 4. Through intentional scaffolding and carefully designed practice, students will reinforce foundational concepts, address common learning gaps and build the mastery and confidence required to tackle Primary 4 Mathematics questions with greater confidence.

Course Outline

As your child prepares for the End-of-Year Exam, the P4 Building Maths Foundations (Area & Perimeter and Word Problems) programme helps strengthen your child’s readiness by revisiting fundamental concepts covered in the second half of the year. With intentional scaffolding, each lesson is supported by guided practice that builds accuracy, confidence and problem-solving skills.

Course Highlights

Area and Perimeter (Composite Figures, Finding Area and Perimeter Given Other Dimensions, Borders, Optimisation)
Managing Word Problems (External Transfer, Excess and Shortage)

Is this programme for TLL or non-TLL students?

This programme is open to non-TLL students, as well as TLL students who are not enrolled in our core Mathematics programme.

Students who are currently enrolled in our core Mathematics programme will not be able to attend this programme, as the materials covered are similar (please refer to Q2).

Are the worksheets similar to those covered in the core programme?

Yes, the worksheets used in this programme are similar to those covered in our core Mathematics programme.

Is this programme suitable for students who struggle with foundational concepts?

Yes. This programme is designed to bridge learning gaps through intentional scaffolding and structured support to help students build a strong foundation. Students will be guided through question analysis and answering techniques step by step.

Will there be homework?

There will be no homework assigned. Students will be given time during lessons to attempt most of the questions as part of classwork.

Will the worksheets be marked?

Worksheets will be collected for marking at the end of each lesson. Answer keys will also be provided after marking so students can refer to model answers for learning and review.

If my child is unable to attend some sessions, can we still sign up?

Yes. Students may arrange for replacement classes within the 6-week programme period. Alternatively, worksheets and answer keys will also be provided for missed lessons.
