Programme Overview

For Ages 7 to 9

Level up your Scratch skills!

Scratch 2 is a natural progression from Scratch 1, allowing students to further hone their skills. Through more challenging activities, students will reinforce key concepts—because practice makes perfect—and bring their ideas to life by creating the coolest games or exciting, blockbuster-style animations.

Course Outline

Combining game design fundamentals with in-depth programming knowledge, students will design their own animations and complete the course by creating an original project during an exciting hackathon.

After completing the hackathon, students will dive deeper into the intricacies of game creation by building a complex platformer game of their own. They will learn how to add lives, moving obstacles, graphics, music, and sound effects, and customise their game with advanced features that bring it to life. Students can then challenge their friends to achieve a high score.

Frequently Asked Questions

About P102 Scratch 2

What is the average class size?

Our classes have a 1:8 teacher to student ratio. We keep our classes small so that every student benefits from maximum personalised attention.

What do students need to bring to class?

We provide all equipment for the classes. Students just need to bring stationery, water bottle and a jacket in case it gets cold.

What if a student misses a class? Is there a replacement class policy?

Unless absent for medical reasons, a communication lead time via email to specialprogrammes@thelearninglab.com.sg of at least two weeks is required prior to missing the class in order for arrangements for a replacement class to be made. Depending on the hours of lesson missed, you/your child may attend our replacement classes or have your/your child's registration transferred to the same course at another location / timing.
Replacement classes may be held online or in-person at Coding Lab's campuses (KAP Mall / Parkway Parade).

Are there any prerequisites for the coding classes?

Yes, prerequisites vary by programme. Please review the stated prerequisites carefully before registering.

What if my child has attended a coding class previously? Can he or she still join this programme?

For programmes with prerequisites, students may be required to complete a placement test. This allows us to assess their foundation, as curricula offered by other providers may differ. Our aim is to ensure that every student is placed in a course that offers the appropriate level of challenge and support.

Please write to specialprogrammes@thelearninglab.com.sg if you have any questions.

I would like to sign up but am unable to confirm the time slot as the school holiday schedule has not been released. What should I do?

We understand the challenges of planning your child’s holiday schedule. You may proceed to register to secure a place and email us at specialprogrammes@thelearninglab.com.sg. We will do our best to accommodate requests for time slot changes, subject to availability.
