The Learning Lab's Book Lovers programme is the perfect programme for children who love to read. Featuring books by acclaimed writer Roald Dahl, the programme includes a range of activities designed to keep students engaged and eager to learn more about storywriting and character building.

With enjoyable storytelling sessions, creative writing and illustration components, students will be encouraged to become lifelong readers!

With excerpts from Roald Dahl's famous works — Dirty Beasts, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Witches, The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me — students will:

Explore the different points of view of the characters
Analyse traits of the characters
Learn imaginative and creative expressions
Analyse extracts from children’s stories

Course Outline

The P1P2 Book Lovers programme aims to inculcate the love of reading in children. With dramatised storytelling sessions, creative writing and illustration components, students will be drawn into the wonderful world of books.

The programme will use exerpts from Roald Dahl's famous works, such as Dirty Beasts, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Witches, and The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me. As students engage with these excerpts, they will be introduced to poems, characterisation, points of view and creative expression.

Session 1
- Introduction to poems
- Understanding the elements of characterisation
- Analysing examples of characterisation from Roald Dahl's poems
- Understanding the different points of view of characters

Session 2
- Analysing character traits
- Understanding the theme of an excerpt from one of Roald Dahl's books
- Exploring and applying creative expression of ideas gleaned from the texts

Must my child have read the books to sign up?

No, the teacher will go through a summary of the story in class. We hope that after the lesson, your child will be so intrigued by the stories that he / she will be eager to read the book.

How is this different from your core curriculum? Do you not cover Roald Dahl books?

This programmes focuses only on books by Roald Dahl whom we believe is a good writer of children's books. Our core curriculum will cover a variety of authors as we like to expose our children to different writing styles. As the focus is on stories, Ts will spend more time during this programme discussing the books and nurturing a love of reading in the children.

My child signed up for this programme last year, can he / she attend again?

No, as the materials will be the same.
