Programme Overview

Would you like your child to sound out letters and blend them effortlessly to form words? Would you like your child to develop the confidence and skills needed to become an independent reader?

The Reading Workshop is a 6-week programme designed to give children a strong start in reading. Through a systematic yet engaging approach, children are encouraged to expand their vocabulary and build confidence as they begin their reading journey.

Children will receive intensive practice in phonics and blending while being immersed in a fun learning environment through games and stories each week.

All students will borrow books weekly from our physical library and gain access to a library of digital read-along e-books.

Reading Workshop Levels 1-2

  • Decode words through blending and segmenting
  • Read simple words and sentences
  • Practise identifying beginning, middle and ending sounds in words

Reading Workshop Levels 3–4

  • Master foundational phonics sounds and consonant blends
  • Sound out digraphs, long vowel sounds and diphthongs
  • Expand their range of sight words and multisyllabic decodable words

Course Outline

The Reading Workshop is a 6-week programme designed to help your child become a more fluent and confident reader.

The programme is offered across four levels to support progression in reading proficiency. During the first lesson, your child will complete a short assessment before being placed in the level best suited to his/her proficiency.

Children placed in Level 1 will learn how to sound out letters and blend them to form words. This helps them recognise simple words and begin reading simple sentences independently.

Children who are already comfortable with blending will be placed in higher levels, where they will learn more complex phonetic sounds and practise reading longer sentences. They will gradually build the ability to recognise and read a wider variety of words.

During lessons, children will receive intensive practice in phonics and blending while learning through games and stories in a fun and engaging environment. Each week, students will borrow physical books from our library and gain access to digital read-along books for continued reading practice at home.

Our systematic yet engaging approach encourages children to build confidence and develop a love for reading as they progress through their reading journey.

Frequently Asked Questions

About K2-P1 Reading Workshop

Which level will my child be placed in?

Students who have previously completed Reading Workshop Level 1 will progress to Level 2. For all other students, your child will be placed in the level that best matches his/her reading proficiency.

Will K2 and P1 students be in the same class?

Yes, students will be grouped according to their proficiency rather than their age. This means that K2 and P1 students may be placed in the same class.

What is the difference between the Reading Workshop and the core K2 or P1 programme?

In our core programme, reading is one component of a broader curriculum that also covers writing, listening, oral communication, sight words, spelling and introductory grammar skills. These components are taught progressively throughout the year.

In contrast, the Reading Workshop is a focused 6-week programme designed to accelerate the development of reading skills. Students receive intensive practice in phonics, blending, sight words and reading strategies, allowing them to build reading fluency and confidence at a faster pace.

These skills also support students in coping more effectively with components in our core programme, such as reading comprehension, cloze passages and vocabulary acquisition.
