Programme Focus

H1 General Paper

Students may choose from two types of electives — Content Mastery (CM) and Exam Prep Skills (EPS) — or a combination of both, to personalise their learning experience.

  • Content Mastery (CM) electives are ideal for learners who seek to strengthen content knowledge across diverse topics. These electives help students excel in General Paper by providing in-depth knowledge of diverse topics while enhancing essay writing and Application Question (AQ) writing skills, giving them a competitive edge.
  • Exam Prep Skills (EPS) electives are designed to hone exam techniques and writing skills by focusing on the specific exam skills required for the various components — Essay Writing, Application Question, Summary Writing and Reading Comprehension — so that students can score well in their examinations.

    H2 Mathematics

Students may choose from two types of electives — Topic Mastery (TM) and Topic Application (TAP) — or a combination of both, to tailor their learning experience to individual requirements.

    • Topic Mastery (TM) electives are ideal for students who want to strengthen their foundational knowledge by developing a fundamental understanding of key concepts.
    • Topic Application (TAP) electives focus on application skills and exam preparation, helping students apply their understanding to exam-style questions.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    About Junior College (JC) Electives

    Who are these electives for?

These electives are designed for JC students who want to supplement their core subjects with additional learning opportunities. They are particularly beneficial for students who seek to:

    • Deepen their understanding of specific topics
    • Prepare for examinations more effectively
    • Explore areas of interest beyond the core curriculum

Are the electives open for both JC1 and JC2 students?

Yes. Both JC1 and JC2 students may sign up for the electives.

For JC1 students, the electives help strengthen understanding of key topics, build confidence and support preparation for promotional examinations and block tests.

For JC2 students, the electives allow students to revisit selected topics to consolidate their foundations from JC1 in preparation for the A-Level examinations.

What is the format of these electives?

It is a fully physical class with a maximum of 14 students.

How do the electives differ from the JC core English and Mathematics programmes for existing TLL students?

JC electives offer several distinct advantages, including:

    • In-depth exploration and targeted preparation:
They provide focused and detailed coverage of specific topics within the core subjects.
English: While the core programme covers each topic comprehensively, the electives focus on additional sub-topics, explored in depth, as well as in-depth preparation for examination skills.
Mathematics: While the core programme covers each topic comprehensively, the electives focus on more challenging topics or concepts that students commonly find difficult, alongside in-depth preparation for examination skills.

    • Flexible scheduling:
Electives are designed to complement core classes and accommodate different learning needs. Students may mix and match electives across both subjects to create a personalised learning plan aligned with their goals.

How are the topics for the electives selected?

The topics are carefully selected based on the following considerations:

    • Gap analysis: Identifying areas where students may require additional support or enrichment
    • Examination relevance: Ensuring alignment with the JC curriculum and examination requirements
    • Student interest: Taking into account the interests and learning needs of JC students

How do students receive their worksheets?

Worksheets are distributed to students during class.

    Will the worksheets be marked?

No. The worksheets will not be marked as they are designed to cover and reinforce the content taught during the lesson.

Is there any homework after each elective?

No, there is no homework. Students will receive sample answers during the sessions and for English they will also receive a summary mind map that captures the key content covered.

Given that there are 14 electives for English and Mathematics, will students be sufficiently prepared for JC examinations by signing up for all the electives?

While the electives provide valuable supplementary learning, they are not intended to replace the core JC subjects. Instead, they complement core studies by supporting deeper understanding and more focused examination preparation.
